Day 14: Broadview to Horrocks Pass

Friday 31st May 2013

Morris Minus waits to be given to another worthy recipient at the morning briefing.

We assembled at Broadview for the morning briefing.

Dean Mortimer's flag for the day was John Horrocks.  We finish the day at the memorial which honours his discovery of the route through the hills, which is now named Horrocks Pass.

Morris Minus was awarded to Margaret Schmidke for her hilarious behaviour while all-too-literally embracing the Rock theme of the week.

The forecast was a 97% chance of rain.  At first the weather was fine, but then we started the walk-in of 2.7 km to the trail ....... and it started to rain.

By the first gate, everyone had jackets on, and it kept raining for the rest of the day.

The walking got tougher as the trail and the many, many rocks got slippery.  There were lots of undulations to negotiate.

The views were shrouded in mist and rain.

The long and winding road.

The walk covered 21.3 km in total, being 18.6 km on the trail + 2.7 km walk-in from Broadview.  The day was wet and the surface was often slippery and loose.

Dean Mortimer provided everyone some cheer at the end of a wet and slippery day - the celebratory glass of port was just perfect as we bundled into the bus.
