Day 12: Eyre Depot to Dutchmans Stern

Tuesday 28th May 2013

Our day began with a long bus ride to Depot Creek.  Dean Mortimer arranged a rock quiz and played 20 rock songs which we had to name by title and artist.  Sadly, one contestant was disqualified for using Shazam to identify all 20 songs.

The day started early with the usual briefing.

Morris Minus was awarded to Mary Cartland for her meritorious clean up of discarded tissues on the trail, and he made a brilliant addition to her already-colourful pack.

As always, Mary has a big smile.

Dean Mortimer's flag for the day was a larger version of our End to End Minus 1 patch.

Duty calls - checking the tank.

The earlier part of the day involved a long fence walk and then a long creek walk, and of course, lots of rocks.

Morning tea found us in yet another creek bed, but even Morris found a comfy spot.

Off again, through some rocky gullies and debris and evidence of a recent fire.

Fantastic old tree, almost split in two.

Wave pattern on a rock.

Guiding others up a steep rocky section

The latter part of the day was a long track walk to Dutchman's Stern, often with beautiful scenery.

After walking 21.2 km, including the 1.5 km walk-in to Eyre Depot, the last act of the day was to present the prizes to the winners of the rock quiz.  The winner was Jane Haar with 17/20 correct, a terrific effort (unassisted by technology).  Second prize was shared by Hilary Dickman and Cathy Kelly.
