Dinners at Riverton July 2014

Friday 25th July 2014 - Riverton Football Club

Dinner on Friday was the warm-up for the real Xmas in July the following night.

THE MIRACLE OF THE TABLECLOTHS

While setting up for dinner, Robert Alcock provided just the single tablecloth.  With tongue-in-cheek, I observed that Robert cannot walk on water, but could he emulate the loaves and fishes miracle, and supply us with many tablecloths.  Then I left to fetch a bottle of wine from my cabin and returned a short time later to find a miracle had indeed been performed.

Lots of tablecloths

GRACE BY JANE HAAR:

Riverton is now our base
Please help us to enjoy this place
Keep us safe out on the trail
Cape Jervis is our holy grail
Neville, remember this is not a race!
And that is the end of my little grace.

Michael celebrated Crows-mas in July
Everyone brought food to share and there was heaps of it.

Day 37: Webb Gap Road to Gerkie Gap Road

Sunday 27th July 2014

Another perfect day on the trail.  The weather was cool, but fine and sunny.

This year is shaping up to be the wettest on record.  The record rainfall to date has meant the crops and countryside are looking superb.  Everywhere we looked the dams were full and there was water in most of the small creeks.  There was still some water on the roads and quite a lot on the trail, making it a bit squishy underfoot.

The usual morning briefing was held with Dean's flag being a snowflake as a reminder of last month at Mt Bryan.  Eve Buckley was awarded care of Morris Minus for notoriously cajoling Coral Campbell to walk with the group last month - when it snowed.

Eve looks ecstatic as she receives Morris Minus
The walk today was a pleasant 18.4 km in idyllic surroundings.  We set a leisurely pace and enjoyed ourselves on a day out to remember.

Morning tea on the trail, with Dallas and Carol Clark making good use of a stile.

Everything around us was so tranquil and picturesque.

Lunch was at the Smith Hill water tank.
A minor patch-up for Marlene.

Dean took the opportunity to say a few words after lunch.

Friends, Romans, countrymen ………..

After all that magnificent scenery, all we had to do was head down Gerkie Gap Road, back to the cars.

Even as we walked the last few metres to the cars, the stunning green crops were all around us.

The end of a brilliant day.
