Day 26: Curnow's Hut to Chlorinator Station Spalding

Saturday 3rd May 2014:

Most of the End-to-End -1 group met at Spalding on Friday evening and had a BBQ at the Country Bakehouse. The theme for the weekend was 'Never Never' and Michael Middleton dubbed the accommodation Never Never Land.

Saturday morning began with the usual briefing and awards.

Cathy Kelly revealed what Morris Minus had been up to over the break and unveiled her latest MM costume -  the finest clerical garb.  It seems that Morris has repented his ways and taken the cloth.

Morris Minus was awarded to Michael Middleton for thinking he had lost his GPS, going back to look for it twice, then later finding it in his pack at the last stop of the day.

Deans flag was 'Never Never Safari Tours' and several other Never Never themes were on display.

Then we were off walking.  It was a fine and sunny day and breezy at times.  Early on we encountered an area recovering from a fire.

The day was full of beautiful country vistas and interesting features like ruins, fallen signs, a stile over nothing, and the yakkas on the hillside.  We covered 19.8 km of mainly flat ground.

Another morning tea in a gully.

A hillside of yakka trees
Never Never Creek never never seemed to end.

Lunch was by a pretty part of the creek, but the cows did not like us moving into their territory.

After lunch, we inspected the nearby Bundaleer tank and platform.

Freshwater Weir was a highlight and marked the beginning of the Bundaleer channel, which also never never seemed to end.

We left the Bundaleer channel at the aqueduct, heading to the Bundaleer Reservoir.

Carol Clark missed a stile and scurried back to climb over it.

Then we followed the pipeline to the Chlorinator Station to finish the walk.
